God is AWESOME, sorry for the delay, and Healing Faith ROCKS!

Hello all!

God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. He knows my heart. He knows that I tend to procrastinate. I'm being very open and honest with you guys. I went on a mission trip by the grace of God and the support of many friends, family, and loved ones this past July. I intended to blog about my experience right when I got back, but kept...well, putting it off. But His Word says in Romans 8:28, 'And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.' So, here I am, finally sharing my experience with Healing Faith in Jinja, Uganda!!!

Working in the village was my favorite part of the trip. It started with a long drive down red dirt roads that were lined with tiny makeshift dwellings made out of whatever was available. From tin to wood, dried foliage, and sometimes brick, that sold anything from vegetables and raw meat, to cell phone minutes and electronics. As we pulled into the village at about 5 miles per hour, the kids chased our van and  some of the older boys, about 10 years old, would jump on the back end of the van, which they apparently do every time. The driver slowed to a stop and told them to get off. The translator Miriam was very good at getting the kids to listen. At one point, she got out of the car and yelled something in Lugandan that made me feel like I was in trouble ha! It kept the kids off from then on that day. We pulled into the village after traveling down a windy dirt road, full of bumps from the dried dirt tire tracks. We are immediately greeted by the people of the village, especially the children, ready to participate in whatever we have for them.

The tasks varied per day, whether it was Malaria education or fun day with the children. Fun days consisted of making a huge circle, singing songs about Jesus, introducing the guests (our team), and playing a game of cat and mouse. Then, Jason would gather the children around for story time out of the children's Bible, which would be translated by John, who is a Healing Faith translator and very animated!! He sure knew how to make the kids laugh! Then, we had 4 stations that included freeze dance, attempts at volleyball, jump rope, and the huge parachute elementary kids here in America are very familiar with :). We rotated the groups divided by colored paper bracelet through each station. I think I can speak for the entire team by saying it was so much FUN!!

At the end of one of our play days, Jason and Kari were made aware that some children were not feeling well. What I found during my time there that was very awesome was, between the Segner family, the McMorris family, our team, and the two interns Katie and Greg, there were many sets of eyes to seek out a child that did not seem to be feeling very well. While we waited, we got our hair braided by the young girls and the boys played soccer.

Once it was time to go, Jason and Kari found about 5 children who tested positive for malaria. Each of them were under the age of 6 I believe. Thankfully, Jason and Kari have the ability to test and treat Malaria right there in the village if it's caught early. Sometimes they have to take the children into town if it is severe enough, all at no cost to the family. A test for malaria costs about $2 American dollars. As a very wise woman once said, that is the price of our Happy Hour sonic drink!!! But yet, children halfway around the world are unable to afford it. Healing Faith ministry is able to save tiny lives that otherwise would not be able to overcome this very treatable disease.

Children and pregnant women are the most at risk for getting malaria, which is a disease spread through mosquitoes that can be dehabilitating to children and babies if not deadly. The World Health Organization reports that one child dies every 60 seconds from malaria. Without access to healthcare and little knowledge of prevention or even cause and symptoms, death is high among malaria victims. But, our Mighty God has sent Jason and Kari Segner, along with their 5 children and many partners in Healing Faith like the missions teams, interns, the McMorris family, and friends that they have made in Uganda and the support from here in the states that help them provide education, treatment, and the power of prayer and faith while spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to the people of Uganda for the past few years now.

The Segners have developed a Malaria education program that they implement throughout the villages once the hand in hand relationships are built between themselves and the villagers. We covered a lot of ground between our mission team, the interns, Jason, and Dave. We parked the van and unloaded a wagon filled with mosquito nets, hanging supplies, and education material, which included easy to understand hand sketched information sheet and coloring books for the kids about malaria, drawn by Kari herself! A group of young boys, about 10 years and younger wanted to pull the wagon of supplies. They outlasted us that day! Without shoes or water, they were full of energy and we were exhausted as we traveled down the red dirt road from dwelling to dwelling. We would ask if they had nets already and if they did Katie, some of our team, and Miriam the translator would go over the education. The education material included how malaria gets spread, through mosquitoes and not bad spirits or because of past sins, which is a common belief. It shows who is most at risk, which are children and pregnant women, and how to prevent the  mosquitoes from breeding in your area by keeping puddles of standing water away from your homes. If the home did not already have nets, Jason, Greg, Dave, and the rest of the team would go inside of their homes to hang the mosquito nets over their beds. We had to get very creative because most of the homes were made out of sticks and the red clay that had hardened from the sun. The dark rooms were small with few, if any windows, which lead us to using flash lights and the headband lights like the minions in Dispicable Me :) Finding somewhere to tie the strings was challenging, but made it all the more enjoyable to rely on the other team members to work together to get the job done. It was a humbling experience to go into their homes, to see where they sleep, and the simple means by which they live from day to day. They are so joyful with so little, it really opened my eyes to the simple things in life versus the always striving for more and better material things here at home. I know God places us where we are for a purpose. We are blessed where we are in order to bless others. The people of the village that day blessed me more than they will ever know.

Jason and Kari are incredibly amazing missionaries that are great stewards of each and every thing that God has blessed them with, from their time, talents, gifts, children, love, leadership skills, and the list could go on and on. I have, along with a few others, witnessed a small piece of their time and work in Jinja, and can honestly say that they are the REAL DEAL! They serve God with everything they have and trust in Him and His will completely, in every aspect possible.

This is where I tie in the 'good' that can come out of my procrastinating tendencies. God is enough!

He raises the poor from the dust, and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor.  “For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s; on them he has set the world.     1 Samuel 2:8

Back to the real world... What is the "real world" anyway?  Who's world is real? Is their world any less real than mine? If I have learned anything from my time in Uganda it is that the "real world" is not America, or Africa or any other country...the "real world" is His world, all of it and God is enough!

I went on this trip expecting to share the word of God, expecting to make a difference in the lives of the people and children of Uganda, expecting to "change the world" as we say it. I expected to poor out my love to these less fortunate people. Realistically I learned that my expectations were only to make myself feel good. To say I went to another country and helped the poor makes everyone feel good right? I found that this list of expectations I had about my journey turned out to be nothing more than me being selfish. I expected these things, I wanted to feel good about my deeds, I needed to help these people who had so little, because I felt bad for them.

Let's just say my expectations for this trip went right out the window the day I arrived! My luggage was lost and I only had the pair of shoes that were on my feet. I was frustrated to say the least...besides, these were not the shoes I was planning on wearing, my village shoes were in my suitcase!

No luggage, no TV or electronics, at times there was no electricity and no water...and yet God is enough!  My heart had changed, my expectations had changed, my purpose for this journey had changed.  I knew I needed to let down my guard and follow His will for me on this trip!  When I let go and gave it all to God, is when I finally saw Him working through me!  Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.  Proverbs 16:3

All those expectations I had about me helping the poor and changing the world dissolved into friendships and relationships with the adults and the children of Uganda. These people did not need me to feel sorry for them, God was showing me that I needed them.  The people of the Wakisi village showed me joy! They may not have had clothes or shoes, but they had God and God is enough!  Here I was complaining about luggage and shoes and the children standing before me had neither.  I knew God was working on my heart.  I saw in these children God is enough!  It was no longer about lost luggage and shoes, it was about seeing these children who had nothing still sing songs of praise, still pray and thank God for the things they did have...they showed me that God is enough!  Although I only saw a portion of this large village I saw the smiles on the kids faces, I saw them shouting praise, and humbling themselves.  I didn't teach them, they taught me.

I was also able to visit an orphanage several times during my time in Uganda. The babies in this orphanage showed me joy!  These babies stole my heart immediately!
These small babies sang and clapped their hands with me as we sang. Being able to see a child go from a sad look to laughing and giggling as I tickled her was priceless!   Again I was reminded that these children did not need me to feel sorry for them....because God is enough! They just needed me to love them and hug them and show them affection.  And I could do that!  I was happy doing just that!  I may not be changing the world, but I was able to love on the children, pray over them, and build relationships. During our devotion time someone said...it's ok to be Andrew!  (Thanks Greg!)  This trip has opened my eyes to that.  We as followers of Christ each have an important role in God's plan, whether it be big or small, we are all making a difference!

Loving on the babies from the babies home and holding them, making them laugh; playing volleyball with the children in the villages, talking and truly listening to these children (even if I didn't understand them), this is why I was here. God showed me that He is enough! And although we may have our own expectations and plans, if we give it all to Him he will take us on a journey we will not forget.

I just wanted to also thank the Segners for taking such great care of our team!  Kari and Jason you have inspired me to be a better person, to be humble in all that I do!  Seeing Christ work through you and your family is powerful, I have never seen a family so humbled and so Christ driven.  Time and time again I watched as you poured out your love to our team, to the children in the villages, to the drivers who took us places, to the guard at the gate...your family inspires me to be more Christ like.  Thank you a million times!

I can not wait to go back to Uganda and see what surprises God has in store for me!

                                                                                                               Yvonne

I Love Fighting Malaria

Jambo/Hello Blogger Nation

With a very positive and joyful attitude we greet you from Jinja, Uganda.

Our team is holding on strong, an amazing group of 7 women. All of our strengths are coming through and we are able to fulfill our mission in the village.

We have been able to visit one of the villages and put up nets. In only one day we visited 19 huts and put up 39 nets. Usually, there are at least two or three children sleeping under one net. The most amazing part is that each hut gets education about the nets and prayer. The village is very large and there is lots of walking. We even went up a small hill to be able to reach those that are most isolated. The big challenge in the small huts is to find a place to hang the nets. The huts are made of mud and there are very few places to hold the nets in place. It is so nice to see the people so proud of their homes. They welcome us and appreciate the work that is being done.

We did spend one day playing with the kids. We had four stations with various games like jump rope, volleyball and music dance off.  It was a long day in the sun with lots of laughs and even our hair was done. Jason Segner gave a great lesson to the children. There were 7 cases of Malaria diagnosed that day.

Our team was able to visit the hut of Jonah, a child that very sick of Malaria the week before. His symptoms were so severe, that he had to be taken to the clinic. He was able to dance and play with all the children. It is such a blessing to see these miracles.

Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes. We have a full day tomorrow with plenty of nets to put up.

WE MADE IT!

PRAISE GOD! We all made it safe and sound!! Thank you so much for all of the prayers! They definitely came in handy!! The first plane ride went smoothly, but was 1 hr behind. Thankfully, it did not affect our connecting flight from London! We had plenty of time and made it safely to Entebbe. There was another team on board from London coming to Uganda! They all applauded when we landed safely :) lol. Unfortunately, not all of the flights luggage made it, but praise God that a majority of ours made it & that we made it safely! So please be praying that we get the rest of our luggage soon! But if not, we have a saying from the last trip....T.I.A. (This Is Africa)...so you go with the flow and just say, "Hey, TIA!" *with a huge smile on your face :D!!! But God well prepared us by packing extra stuff on our carry on that will come in handy! And only 2 of the 7 of us don't have our luggage. Our other team members have been so gracious to lend us anything we may need! God has us covered!! The bus ride was only about 2 hours from Entebbe to Jinja thanks to our wonderful drivers! We got here about 3 am Ugandan time and crashed! We slept in until about 11:30 am and had a delicious lunch with the Segners, McMorris', and interns Katie and Greg! We ate Posho (which is almost like mashed potatoes, but is like corn meal made of maize) and beans (which tasted just like Mexican charro beans) So YUM! Now we are enjoying some rest/quiet time, preparing for the work the Lord has for us within the coming days! I am so excited to be back in Jinja, it literally feels like I am coming home. Thank you all for your support in getting us here! I pray that God continually uses you all to be a blessing and to be blessed!! All for His Glory! Keep the prayers coming! Thank you with lots of love! Ana Banana!

3 weeks away!

Today marks 3 weeks to go until we leave for Jinja, Uganda! PRAISE GOD for His hand in our fundraising! THANK YOUUUU to everyone who has contributed!! After a HUGE success at our last garage sale, we are getting closer to our individual goals to reach the goal per person for the trip. God has been SO FAITHFUL in His promise to provide what we need, exactly when we need it. His ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts. Even if we think we have things perfectly planned, His plan is always the better one because He knows our hearts more than we even do. I love serving a God that loves His children unconditionally!! It is such a blessing!! I wanted to say a big THANK YOU for all of the prayers and donations (items, monetary, time, etc) to our efforts thus far and ask for continued prayer for His will to be done June 25th - July 7th through us and continually through Healing Faith Ministry and all of the people who serve through them!! Prayer warriors are the BEST and I humbly ask that you keep all parts of Healing Faith and the people of Uganda in your prayers!! Thank you! I am so excited to finally be there & be in the villages with the kiddos singing, Chicky Chicky and dancing!! lol. Last but not least, I ask that if you are reading this and haven't already donated, please pray about making a donation to the group to help get us through this last push of fundraising. I sincerely believe in God's superiority and that He has already placed the desire in the hearts of people that He wants to donate towards our trip. I am trusting that if it is you reading this, He has already told you or has tried to tell you. (lol we can be hard headed sometimes) And I will testify that He will bless your obedience overwhelmingly according to His will and purpose for your life. With that, I would also like to challenge you to stop today and recognize how He has blessed you thus far. Whether it is with nice things, education, children, marriage, a job....the list can go on and on. But just know that all good things come from heaven above. He loves us. Uncondtionally. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. Forever. I. Love. My. Jesus. God the Father. & Holy Spirit. Have a blessed day my friends! Ana Banana!

Baby Kits!

Do you have a pile of old baby things laying around?  Or a gift card that has gone unused from Target or Walmart?  Would you like to help us provide Healing Faith with Baby Kits?!!

In the US when one of our sweet friends finds out she is expecting, there is nothing but joy, and showers and love and support!  We plan these elaborate showers, with beautiful decorations, and presents galore!  Baby has everything needed, from burp cloths to the finest stroller!
But, have you ever wondered what it is like to have a baby in a third world country?

In Uganda, moms to be are not worried about whether or not they will have an epidural, they are worried about whether or not they will have the necessary things needed to give birth.  And by necessary I mean plastic sheeting, razor blades, cotton wool (gauze pad), soap, gloves, cord ties, and a child health card.  These are the basic things needed to give a safe delivery, and they are NOT provided at the local clinic.  You must bring it.  Can you imagine having to bring your own delivery items to the hospital!  Thankfully there is an awesome organization in Uganda who gives them out, and who Healing Faith has created a relationship with in order to provide the mommas in the villages these kits.

However, in Uganda, mommas also do not have the basics for their babies like we do.  Most of the time, providing a new baby with the bare minimum is difficult, at best.  It is an area that Healing Faith wants to help with! And something YOU can be a part of!

Our team is looking to put together some Baby Kits to bring to Healing Faith so that they can then provide new mommas and babies with some essentials!
What is a Baby Kit?
1 receiving blanket, 1 onsie, 1 hat, 1 set of socks and a cloth diaper.

We have a pile of onsies (thank you Meredith!!) and want to ask for donations for the other things!

If you have old receiving blankets you are no longer using, or little baby hats, any of these things (even onsies!!) please let me know by email: rachel.driskell@yahoo.com
I will come pick them up, or meet you somewhere!!

Thanks in advance!!

I Love Doctors

Mission Count Down - 26 Days!
*Think Positive
*Finish reading When Helping Hurts
*Brainstorm over another Fundraiser - half way there:)
*Share blog address on Facebook
*Send a few more donation letters
*Done - journal, bible, some skirts, passport, injections, medication, camera,
*Boldly Pray

Hello Blogger Nation

Our team is less than a month away from leaving to Jinja!!! We had a great Fundraising Garage Sale at my sister's house. Lots of our friends donated and many people purchased our items. There is such a great spirit of community in Aggieland that is amazing.

As a Podiatrist  Assistant there is a great comfort to hear the sigh of relief from the family, when the doctor says "Patient is doing well, everything went as planned". It is called bedside manner, but not all doctors know about this concept. Fortunately, most of the doctors that I have encountered have excellent insight into the importance on comforting the patient and the family. I was fortunate to witness one doctor asking the patient, if it would be ok to pray. My doctors have been asked to pray with the family. And as a patient my doctor has prayed for me. There is such a warm and calming feeling when you know that not only a great physician is working on your case, but God who created all humans is leading the team:)

Healing Faith has the best doctors you have ever met. None of the staff have MD after their names, but they know how to comfort, calm and cure. Jason Segner has years of medical training, but his best  prescription in the villages is for the patient to drink water due to dehydration.  Kari is magnetically attracted to the child that needs to be held. Even Tom, the security guard, knows that his greeting and smile after a long day at the village will cure you of most complaints. The community that has been built in Jinja with Healing Faith is so contagious that all you want to do is talk about the Segner's and Healing Faith.

Thank you Lord for the wonderful blessings in our lives. I boldly pray that our mission team have phycisian hearts. That we not only help erradicate Malaria, but comfort, calm and bring God's Love as a cure. Amen

Running the Race

Isn't it funny when you hear the same Bible verses or topics from different people all around the same time!?! It makes you stop and think, are You trying to tell me something God?? Well He is! He has been speaking to me about running the race with self control, which takes patience and trust that He has it all planned out for me and will provide every step of the way.

Now, it is easy to say this, but hard to put those words into action. But it is the Truth - God's Word that tells us in Romans 5:3-6 'And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has given to is. For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.'

The hard times where we don't know how things are going to play out are the times that God is molding us into the woman or man of God that He created us to be, by working in our hearts. The hearts that He knew before we were even formed in our mother's womb. Even though we may resist His plan for us at times, He is right there waiting for us to go back to Him. And He will meet us, run to us with joy and open arms!! How awesome is that?!

I serve an Almighty, caring, kind, gentle, loving God. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Prayers for the people of Uganda, the Segner family, our team, our leader Rachel, our fundraising, and provision over the traveling and guidance in the work God has planned for us during our short time in Uganda, all in Jesus' Mighty name, amen!!

May God also bless abundantly all those that have prayed and donated to our trip!!! God sees your heart and will honor your obedience!! THANK YOU SOOOO SOOO MUCH!!! God bless you all who read this!

With Love In Christ,
Ana

Seek God Daily!

I often find myself worrying about things of insignificance here on earth. I realize that when I pray everyday, God not only clearly answers my prayers, he takes my worries away.  I often find myself worried about where the money for my trip is going to come from...and then I remember to give it all to God and seek him and he will provide.  I forget this is not MY trip.  This is His trip and He has already called me to be a part of this wonderful team and now I need to just seek him daily and pray through this opportunity he has given me. So my challenge for you this week is to seek God everyday and pray. I promise He hears you and is waiting for you to talk to him. This week I will pray daily for the mission trip team and pray that God uses us to do His will on this incredible journey!

I Love Whataburger

Mission To Do List:
*think positive
*advertise for garage sale #2
*Bill Gates on Facebook - fight Malaria:)
*spanish flyer better than letter - w/ pic
*boldly pray

Howdy Blogger Nation

With a very heavy and happy stomach I greet all the Whataburger Lovers. The Rosa Especial is a #5 (bacon cheeseburger) mayo and mustard all veggies with jalapeños on a small bun. This is the perfect combination and at one point in life, I would go there so often that the staff knew my order. Yes, I was 50 pounds heavier and did not a see a problem at all. What can I say - I'm a food addict!

Whataburger is a fast food chain that is open 24 hours a day and is addictive. I think they have other stuff like salads, but I'm sure sure I've never willingly ordered one. The ketchup is so good that they now sell it at the grocery store:)

In 2012 I did order a bacon burger in Jinja, although it was very good, it was no Whataburger. Bacon was really a tiny piece of ham. Most of the community have very little or no access to fresh meat. It was very embarrassing that the village kids would pinch the fat around my arm. They had NO body fat! It was rare for them to touch a fatty arm. I had not realized how big we must appear to them. With all of our technology and advancement we choose to overindulge in bad foods. It really made me think that both America and Africa suffer from malnutrition. One from having too much and one from having nothing. Nutritional training is so important to both cultures. Will try to have the best possible diet available to me here in order to be a good example of a healthy American.

I boldly pray that missionaries across the world have the nourishment they need not only for themselves, buy for their community. Lord please keep the Segner family healthy and nourished with the best foods they need today. They are a sharing family. Thank you for this beautiful day. Amen.

I LOVE God's Ice Cream!

My name is Meredith Wagner. I was born and raised in Bryan,Texas along with my parents and four younger siblings. After graduating high school I joined the WONDERFUL AND GREAT United States Air Force. I served as a medic overseas. I finished my Masters Degree in 2007.  I am happily living in College Station, Texas with my husband, Derek and 5 year old daughter, Grace. Due to 100% disability from the Air Force I do not currently have an occupation outside of being a homemaker, this keeps me busy! I am a member of Brazos Fellowship. My family always looks forward to going to church each Sunday to see and hear what God has brought to the table for Pastor Will Lewis to share! I am really looking forward to the journey that has already started in preparing for the mission trip to Uganda this June! I have been so blessed by each teammate that will be serving along with me! I was totally baffled when I realized I had only gone on one other mission trip that was to Mexico in 1995... Yvonne Kylonnen Stone was on this particular trip to Mexico where we served together! After changing churches, moving to different countries, losing contact, etc. I found out that she also attends Brazos Fellowship and teaches in the children's ministry! This made my day, God has now brought us back together again to serve him in Uganda, along with several other teammates that I am REALLY looking forward to serving with!!! Go has many flavors of ice cream, some days aren't my favorite flavors, yet I can always receive sprinkle of candy, cookie, sauces, fruit and anything else I might want to add to the flavor to make it taste better that day. The sprinkles, etc. signify how God uses his blessings to keep us motivated and striving to be more like him each day. The best part is that tomorrow is a NEW Flavor! God Bless!   Mer

I LOVE church

I Boldly pray that all missionaries across the world are able to attend a bible based service today. Church building is not required. Lord let us ALL hear the message we need to keep up motivated for the next week. Thank you so much for our wonderful church family. Brazos Fellowship loves you Lord, keep us safe. Amen.

I Love Junk:)

Mission To Do List:
*think positive
*collect, clean and price garage sale donations:)
*advertise garage sale- signs/ radio/ craigslist
*boldly pray

Hello Blogger Nation!

Very excited to have you read about JUNK! Who would have thought that is something to LOVE! Growing up below the poverty line in Eagle Pass, TX you learn to Love other peoples junk:) Nothing looks better than a semi used gorgeous purse from a garage sale, flea market or better yet a hand me down from a cousin. Still today our family recycles most of our junk. I'm a recovering pack rat with hoarding tendencies. Not being wasteful and taking care of the few valuable items that we posses has been drilled in our family since before birth. The only time we buy retail is when items are on sale and multiple coupons are available:)

Not once in Uganda did I see an item wasted. Everything had a purpose and ALL items looked very used and abused. Things did not have a fake plastic shiny coat of bling, it was all beautifly simple and purposeful. Very few people in the city and none in the village had socks. To explain socks to someone who has no shoes, shirt, or undergarments seems like a waste of time. Yet in my home I am guilty of complaining about losing ONE sock in the dryer. Will NOT volunteer to explain a clothes dryer to a Ugandan, I'd be too embarrased.

I boldly pray that the Healing Faith Team has all the supplies necessary to do their mission in Jinja today. Please provide the equipment and human resources to save those lives that need to be healed today. Lord keep Zippi and baby Jason in great health. In your name, Amen.

With a very positive attitude and a belly full of bacon you are greeted today. I have purposely had to spend time away from blog in order to regroup from stress and focus on the important things in life. Not sure who I would be without my family, but I know that I would not be as loved, challenged, supported, encouraged, happy, creative and as crazy. La Familia Garza is so dynamic. Everyone has strong points of view and very determined. We do better when we are together because we have such a strong bond, at the same time we are not all in each other's business. Parents will be here on May 10th to celebrate Mexican Mothers Day. If there is ever a day to remember when in Mexico, it's May 10th:)

When visiting the Segner Family in 2012 we were able to spend time in their home. Their family consisted of two parents, four American children, five Healing Faith team members (Apio, Tom, Emma, Simon, Zippi's husband- Moses), as well as hundreds of children from the village. The white people are called Mzungu in the city. As the Segner little girl was playing with her Little Mermaid coloring book, she colored herself as a black mermaid. Hadlee had no distinction in her mind of the color of her skin since none of her family treated her different. It was such a blessing to see a true environment where skin color was not seen as a difference, but as an equal. True family Love:)

I boldly pray for the WHOLE Segner family. That the lives the Segner American Family and the Segner Ugandan Family become so interrelated that no one sees color difference. Lord please let these wonderful Mzungus know how much their Aggie family loves them and misses them terribly. Lord keep the Segners strong and safe today. Amen

God knows no bounds...

Hello!  My name is Yvonne and I have been married to my husband Guy for 11 years now.  I have 2 daughters God has blessed me with. I am blessed to have a wonderful job that fulfills my passion to work with children and gives me the chance to make a difference in their lives by being their teacher.

I was inspired by a local family’s story from my church Brazos Fellowship. Jason and Kari Segner founded Healing Faith in 2011.  Their goal is to aid in the ongoing battle of malaria, while showing the love, grace and salvation of our Savior.  They accomplish this through building relationships with the people of the rural villages and working to educate, equip and empower them in the battle against malaria. You can learn more about Healing Faith online at www.HYPERLINK "http://www.healingfaithuganda.org/"hHYPERLINK "http://www.healingfaithuganda.org/"eHYPERLINK "http://www.healingfaithuganda.org/"alingfaithugandaHYPERLINK "http://www.healingfaithuganda.org/".org

I learned about an opportunity to serve alongside Healing Faith in Uganda.  At first I thought, “Wow, this is an amazing opportunity for people…but not me.”  I have a family to take care of, the cost is too high, it is too far away.  I thought of every excuse why it would not be possible for me to serve these people in another part of our world, and yet God knew His plan all along for me.  I continued to pray and ask God to show me His will, and He put it on my heart that it is my time to serve these people in Uganda.  Jesus said, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends" John 15:13.  We lay down our lives every time we put someone else's needs before our own.  We lay down our lives through service.  During my quiet time I opened my bible to Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.”  this is when I knew I needed to serve.

So, with enthusiasm and excitement, I will be joining the 2014 June Mission Trip Team with my church, Brazos Fellowship.  While in Uganda, we will be working alongside the Segner family in their mission to provide mosquito nets for families in Uganda to prevent the spread of Malaria.  Malaria kills a child in Africa every 60 seconds.  Most of these deaths are children under the age of 5.  Mosquito nets treated with insecticide dramatically reduce the mosquito populations while protecting children from the often fatal bites of malaria-infected mosquitoes.  We will be going to the villages and hanging nets, educating the villages on Malaria prevention and detection, de-worming the children, and most importantly we will pray with the people of Uganda and share the truth of the Gospel.

God knows no bounds, and I trust that He will provide for me and prepare me spiritually, emotionally, physically, and financially for this wonderful adventure He is sending me on. One tool He has supplied us all with is the body of Christ, the church, to partner with this team prayerfully and financially.  I ask that you consider partnering with our team prayerfully, financially, or both.  Please commit to pray God works in our hearts and gives us strength to be Spirit-filled witnesses to the ends of the earth. Pray that the Lord would give the team boldness to share the Gospel and open eyes of the people we encounter to see the truth of the Gospel.  Secondly, please consider committing to a financial partnership.  I know this trip will cost a lot of money, and I feel where there is a will there is a way, and God will provide if it is His will.

You can partner with me through a check, or an online donation through Healing Faith.  Make all checks payable to Healing Faith with my name in the memo line (Yvonne Stone)

If you have any questions about the trip or Healing Faith, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I look forward to serving our God and seeing what he has planned for me.  Thank you for your support.

I'm Ana! Nice to meet ya!

Hello Family & Friends!!

I am so excited to let you know that I am taking another trip to Jinja, Uganda with Healing Faith (www.healingfaithuganda.org). The missionaries that will be hosting us are Jason and Kari Segner of College Station, who have been missionaries in Africa with their 5 children for a few years now. Many of you helped me in prayer and financially for my first trip in December 2012 and I am eternally grateful for your help. It was such a blessing to work hand in hand with the villages outside of Jinja for clinic days and also playing and loving on the children of the villages. Healing Faith has turned their ministries focus on Malaria prevention and education in addition to diagnosing and treating malaria, which is mainly found in pregnant women and children. We are going to help them with the malaria program and anything else that is needed.

A quick update on what is going on in my life. Over the past year, the Lord has been doing some pruning in my personal life, I believe clearing way for a new season. Keeping my hope and faith has been difficult, but has grown and strengthened my relationship with God a great deal. I currently work at Scott & White and earned my certification for ophthalmic assistant last October. I love my job and my co-workers, I am so blessed. I am currently finishing up my 4th semester of night classes at Blinn. I am about finished with my core courses and will keep praying on where God wants me to go from there. :)

Our team of 7 women will be leaving June 25th and will return July 9th. Through this trip we will be able to bring 2 fifty pound bags per person, and we plan on using 1 per person for much needed medical supplies and anything else they may need.

The Lord has really been working in my heart about how to write this letter. I want to be open and honest with my supporters and say that I would love your prayers first and foremost. I confidently believe that God is sending me back to Jinja for a purpose that is unknown to me at this time, but I trust Him in this and I ask that you please pray for His provision and protection over this trip. I also ask that you pray for His will to be done, for courage, for the hearts of the people of Uganda, for our team, for the Segner family and Healing Faith ministry. Prayer is powerful in Jesus' name and I believe that covering this trip in prayer is the most important part of this letter. I thank you now for your support in prayer.

With that said, I would also like for you to prayerfully consider supporting me financially. I believe in every decision we make, that we should take it to our Heavenly Father first. If you feel led by the Holy Spirit to support me financially, here are a couple of ways to do so:

Tax deductible donations by check can be made you to: Healing Faith with my name in the memo line and can be sent to either address:

I Love Foodies

Mission to do list
*think positive
*thankful for paper and envelope donation:)
*find postage money
*boldly pray

With a positive attitude and HANGRY (Hungry and Angry) stomach I greet ALL foodies. Foodies has become a common term to refer to all of us who LOVE to eat good food. We like trying new foods and telling people about our food finds. We usually sit around and discuss what we liked and disliked about a particular dish. We always have ideas on how to improve and how much we were surprised we liked some dish. As a food addict, there is nothing better than a big dish of love served by my mother. All other food comes to a close second:)

As I found God's Love in Jinja, I know exactly what that taste like to me. God is in all food, but the natural stuff is soooo much better:
*Bacon Nation- applewood smoked bacon - thick slice
*Mexico - Mango Ataulfo
*Texas - Fresh Pecans = Pecan Pie
*USA - Washington Apples = apple pie
* Uganda - Fresh pinapple
*Brazil - strong coffee
*Italy - fresh tomatoes
*Dominican Republic - plantains
*London - Hot Tea

I boldly pray that Healing Faith Ministry has all the ingredients they need today for their meals. I pray that Apio is in great spirits and all her love comes through her cooking. Let her catering business flourish and her home prosper from her hard labor. Thank you Lord for the abundance of food choices in our lives. Amen.

I Love Texas Aggies

Mission countdown - 69 days
*think positive
*boldly pray

Hello Blogger Nation

I positively Love southern hospitality. Texas is so big and so beautiful, there is nothing that can compare to the feeling of being from Texas. Even those if us not born here, got here as quick as we could.  Not only am I a Texan, I am also an Aggie. There is a Spirit that all Aggies have and that Spirit can never be told. We are the Aggies, the Aggies are we:)

Nothing will warm your heart more than seeing a maroon Aggie shirt in Jinja. It is so familiar to us Aggies, but placed in such a different culture, just makes you smile. The Segner family are true Texas Aggies. They posses all the Texas charm and hospitality and they added the love of Jinja to the equation. Simply a great family with wonderful Spirit that can never be told.

I boldly pray that the Aggie community know about the great work that the Segners are doing. That all the love and support of the Aggie family pour down on the Segner family today. Thank you Lord the great opportunity of living in Texas and loving the Aggies.

I Love low tech

Mission to do
*think positive
*make not to do list
*boldly pray

Hola Blogger Nation

When I positively say Low tech, I really mean No Tech. Technology, computers and any powered equipment and I just don't get along. Most of the time, my fat fingers makes me click too many things. Not sure how to close internet windows without shutting down the whole computer. I don't have a computer, Internet, fax, camera, copier, printer or cable. Most of these were eliminated due to lack of funds. The local library and my sister are my go to Internet hubs.

Several days after our team arrived to Uganda, I lost my phone. It was an Android that for me was very high tech. Was just entering the Facebook addiction and was now texting daily. Most of the trip I used the computer very seldom. The internet is available at the Segner residence, but there is not always electricity. My lack of phone was so insignificant when people did not have water. So thankful that I was able to appreciate Jinja with no technological interruptions.

Lord, I boldly pray that the Segner family have the basic technology resources they need today. Electricity, water, fuel, automobile, phone service. Lord, let them  feel that they are loved and respected for all the sacrifices they endure daily. Lord, please don't let me focus on the things I don't have,  but on all the blessing that you have given me. In your name, Amen

I LOVE T.A.G.

Jambo- Hola- Howdy- Hi Blogger Nation

Proverbs 31 daily devotional explains T.A.G. as Time Alone with God. During our trip to Uganda in 2012, our leader would call it quiet time. We were required to take a journal on our mission. I was not used to this concept. My journal was a documentary on facts: Time of flight, team members names, the fatigue I was having. It took the daily devotional to explain the importance of writing and listening to God. I now T.A.G. Most mornings. The details are more about being grateful and blessed for so many things.

Change of place plus change of pace equals change of perspective. Being away from the daily stresses of life in a different country, slower pace of living really changed my perspective of the priorities in life. If I don't make time for God first thing in the morning, then what is my priority for the day? If I truly believe God comes first, then I must do that daily in order to reinforce my beliefs.

I boldly pray that All Missinaries in Uganda have the opportunity to T.A.G. The ones working for Aid prevention, orphanages, adopting children, mosquito nets, education, shoes, water and many more. That they have the time and energy to spend time with you Lord daily. Don't let them do he work and lose sight of the bigger picture. Give them strength daily.
